FOOD PANTRY
Saint Athanasios’ main food pantry donations currently go to Aurora Area Interfaith Food Pantry and Food 4 Students Program.
AURORA AREA INTERFAITH FOOD PANTRY
Aurora Area Interfaith Food Pantry was founded in 1981. The collaboration of people of all faiths and a desire to serve those in the city of Aurora and beyond led to the forming of Aurora Area Interfaith Food Pantry. For decades, the Pantry operated from offices shared with Hesed House, a local homeless shelter. With the need for basic services in Aurora growing substantially during the 2008 recession, it became evident that a larger space both for food storage and grocery distribution was needed. With the support of the community, government agencies, and local foundations, Aurora Food Pantry moved to its present location in November 2013. Today, Aurora Food Pantry is one of the largest food pantries in northern Illinois, distributing 3.6 million pounds of food each year to 24,000 unique individuals. Aurora Area Interfaith Food Pantry is located at 1110 Jericho Road Aurora, IL.

FOOD 4 STUDENTS PROGRAM
The Food 4 Students program is a collaborative effort between Marie Wilkinson's Aurora Illinois Food Pantry and the East Aurora High School. This program is one of over 60 charitable endeavors created by lifetime social and civil rights activist Marie Wilkinson. The goal of Food 4 Students is to give students in need access to wholesome and nutritious food. The program provides a bag of food to those students so they can feed themselves and any younger siblings while their parents are at work. Within each bag is a mix of food items and a recipe card, utilizing the bag's contents to make delicious meals. There are currently 120-150 students who receive bags of food through this program. The program is run from East Aurora High School at 500 Tomcat Lane Aurora, IL.

HISTORY OF FOOD PANTRY
Since the 2000's, The Saint Athanasios’ Food Pantry Ministry has been helping local families in need. In 2012, Zachary Digrindakis helped make the church's food donation bin for an Eagle Scout Project, which can be found inside the church hall. In 2023 John Haralambopoulos made book exchange and curbside pantry boxes for his Eagle Scout Project, which can be found alongside the church's roundabout off 5th Ave. The curbside pantry box, still in use today, is filled with food donations that any family in need can grab and use. Presently, Saint Athanasios’ Food Pantry Ministry works with two different food donation organizations--the Aurora Area Interfaith Food Pantry, and the Food 4 Students Program.
